The 2020 SPR Postgraduate Course brings you expert speakers from our field to deliver succinct and timely knowledge in two tandem tracks that will span two weekend days each - Saturday, May 9 - Sunday, May 10.

Cardiac CT: What you need to know to establish and build the service – Includes hands-on case-based learning (bring your laptop)Pediatric Cardiac CT is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas of pediatric radiology. The SPR 2020 Cardiac CT Postgraduate Course features national and international experts delivering didactic lectures on cardiac CT techniques and a broad range of pediatric cardiac conditions, mentored “hands-on” case reviews, and an innovative learning session with 3D printed cardiac models! We hope this course will cardiovert everyone into becoming a pediatric cardiac CT expert!

Pediatric Ultrasound: Beyond Fellowship – Includes vendor demonstrations (Spanish Translation Provided)
Ultrasound is the most versatile and valuable of the non-ionizing radiation imaging modalities, and pediatric radiologists continue to be at the forefront of developing and adopting new and improved ultrasound techniques. The 2020 Postgraduate Ultrasound Course will cover a variety of conditions relevant to our practice. With topics ranging from musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound elastography and contrast applications, there is something for everyone who has an interest in pediatric ultrasonography.

The Professionalism, Leadership and Career Development Course on Monday, May 11 will feature a full day on career and wellness.

Excellence as a physician means going beyond academic knowledge and clinical productivity. Increasingly, the practice of medicine requires particular attention to how our efforts are adding value to the care of the patient. The SPR has designed a unique day-long course, drawing together leaders and experts in pediatric radiology to serve as a concentrated resource for pediatric imagers, in order to allow for learning and discussion on professionalism and leadership development in radiologic practice. Pediatric radiologists are well-positioned to be ambassadors to other providers by showing how radiology can connect the disparate dots of sub-specialized healthcare and bring a diverse team together.

This course in Radiologic Professionalism is comprised of diverse sessions designed to aid the pediatric radiologist in developing professional and leadership skills, particularly by focusing on the myriad roles in which we can serve our patients: diagnostician, information manager, consultant, patient advocate, and communicator - to name a few. Topics will be applicable to both academic and private practice radiologists, such as practice building, professional development, addressing work-related stress, balancing productivity with quality, mentorship, and conflict management.

The Neuhauser Lecture is the singular most prestigious lectureship for our specialty, and it has a long-storied history of renowned lecturers. The 2020 Neuhauser Lecturer is Nisha Mehta, MD. Dr. Mehta's presentation will be featured the afternoon of Friday, May 15, 2020.

The Annual Meeting will have 90 minute workshop sessions each morning. Each day there will be 6 different workshops running concurrently, one entirely in Spanish. Rather than back-to-back, long didactic lectures, most workshops will be divided into short, 10-15 minute talks and discussion sessions, allowing for more active learning.

Featured Midday Sessions

Best Case Competition (5/13) – Have an interesting case? Click here for more information and to submit your case for consideration by 2/17/2020.

This year we are experimenting with new content delivery options, including an hour at the end of the Annual Meeting days in which dynamic speakers are featured discussing focused topics of personal but generalizable relevance to our Members. Topics are organized by themes, including Wellness, Investing in Ourselves and Outreach. This is meant to be a time for everyone to come together collectively before the social evenings to relax, enjoy and engage. These sessions will feature renowned speakers from within and outside of the SPR, including Kristen DeStigter, MD, Francoise Mathieu, MEd, CCC, RP, and Adam Foss, JD.

Wellness - Tuesday, May 12, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

All poster abstracts are electornic

This session will be focused on musculoskeletal cases including fracture assessment and spectral analysis. Discussion points from a panel of expert Pediatric Radiologists will showcase creation and sustainability of a 3D processing lab, advanced imaging and 3D visualization techniques/applications and how 3D printing benefits diagnosis and surgical planning. To achieve this goal, insights and tips for developing a successful 3D lab will be discussed during a round robin review of clinical cases with description of the real-world utility of these visualization techniques as well as their future applications. Organizing the session in this format will allow attendees to continue to explore building a successful 3D lab, provide needed guidance toward how advanced imaging can be financially sustainable, and provide pointers on how to promote 3D visualization to their customers, patients, surgeons and other clinicians at their institutions. (Lunch is provided for the first 100 participants.)

Tuesday, May 12, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

Protocol refinement and problem solving sessions will be offered again this year. The goal of these sessions is to develop, through discussion and interaction, manufacturer-specific CT, MR and US protocol improvements. Come prepared with your specific questions and challenges! The discussion will be led by experts in the field who have hands-on experience with the equipment operation and protocol design. Vendors will also have representatives present, who can respond to questions about trouble with specific exam types, sequencing, best sequencing processes, image optimization, dose reduction, etc. (Lunch is provided for the first 60 participants for the MR and CT Protocol Sessions.)

Ultrasound Protocol Session: Sunday, May 10, 7:00 - 7:50 a.m.
