The Society for Pediatric Radiology is dedicated to fostering excellence in pediatric health care through  imaging and image-guided care.

The Society for Pediatric Radiology actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of training, practice and leadership for the benefit of our patients, our profession, and for the Society as a whole.


Professionalism Statement

We believe that every member of The Society for Pediatric Radiology should be valued and feel included. All voices should be heard.

To assure a collaborative and inclusive culture, all members should conduct themselves in a professional manner, respect all individuals, including patients and co-workers, and advocate for those unable to do so for themselves. We welcome all members and value diversity. We shall not discriminate based upon race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, religion, ability, or experience.

While we embrace free speech and the power of open discourse and debate during our professional society meetings as well as on social media platforms, we do not condone any forms of harassment, bullying behaviors, or speech that marginalizes or attacks others. Communication and inquiry should be based upon scientific curiosity and professional respect.

By upholding this endorsed Statement of Professionalism, we promise to treat each human being with steadfast dignity, kindness, and respect so that our central mission remains focused on providing exceptional and compassionate care for all.

General Information

The Society for Pediatric Radiology is a professional membership association with just under 2,000 members. The members conduct an annual scientific meeting, topic-focused weekend courses, support the official journal, Pediatric Radiology and are official sponsors of the Image Gently Campaign and the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging. Each year, the Society's work is conducted by over 450 volunteers who serve through work on over 35 committees.

The Society for Pediatric Radiology is governed by an elected Board of Directors including six Directors, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the President, President-Elect, First Vice President, Second Vice President and Board Chair. Elections for the Second Vice President, Directors and other Society positions are held annually prior to the Society's annual meeting. Each Director serves a three-year term; each officer in succession serves one year in each position. The Secretary and Treasurer serve three-year terms following an overlap year with their predecessors served at Secretary- and Treasurer-elect.

Non-voting Board Liaisons include the Editor of Pediatric Radiology, the SPR website editor, the President of SCORCH, the Chair of the ACR Commission on Pediatric Imaging, the President of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging and a North American member of the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging.  

The Chief Executive Officer of the Society is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, who ascends to that position following the year served as President. Officers enter the succession to the Presidency in the first year as Second Vice-President, the second is served as First Vice president, the third as President-Elect, the fourth as President and the fifth as Board Chair.

The President is responsible for planning and presiding over the Society's annual meeting and is assisted in this responsibility by the meeting and education-related committees.

The Board of Directors has contracted with the ACR for comprehensive management services and employs a full time Executive Director and Director of Education and Meetings who are responsible for functions related to administrative services, meeting services, financial management, informatics, computer services, continuing medical education, and communications.

The strength of the Society lies in the generous efforts of the many dedicated committee members and in the broad participation of members in the educational, scientific and outreach activities.
