SPR Committee Basics

Thank you for agreeing to serve on an SPR Committee.

Among the Board’s highest priorities is for the committees to identify ways to use the Society’s available resources to serve the needs of our fellow members. If you are not already aware, many of the most innovative SPR projects in recent years emerged from member/committee suggestions. Several committees, have worked closely with our Web Editor, Dr. Ben Taragin to develop resource pages on the SPR website. Review the new “Specialties” button on the site for examples. Dr. Taragin will reach out to Committee chairs in the coming weeks to ask that each Chair identify a liaison to the Website Committee. If you are interested in serving in that role, express your wishes to your chair.

Terms of Committee service – there are two things we need you to do right away and one item you should understand.

  1. Do:
    1. Be familiar with the ACR Code of Ethics statement and ACR PRACTICE PARAMETER ON THE PHYSICIAN EXPERT WITNESS IN RADIOLOGY AND RADIATION ONCOLOGY as endorsed by the SPR.
    2. Sign the Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement(If you are a member of multiple committees, and your answers will be the same for each committee, you may answer once for “All Committees.”)
  2. Understand:  All statements and reports coming from Committee or Task Force deliberations must be submitted to and approved by the Board prior to dissemination outside of the committee. Committee and Task Force Chairs and Vice Chairs are not authorized to make statements on behalf of SPR. SPR’s authorized spokespersons are the President, the Board Chair and the Secretary.

What you need to know

Resources

Conference Calls: SPR Committees are invited to conduct conference calls using the Society’s account. To arrange this, simply contact the committee members, identify a time when you can meet and then contact Angela Davis (Adavis@acr.org) to obtain conference call dial-in instructions. Then, provide the committee members with the instructions and the agenda by email.

We like to use the free www.doodle.com website for gathering committee or board members' availability. Start with the dates and times you are available to build your poll.  Then circulate the poll to the committee members. You'll have your date and time determined very quickly.

The SPR website: Several Committees have been active in developing content for the website. See the Contrast-enhanced US and Fetal Imaging Pages for examples. They can be found under the “Specialties” button on the navigation bar.  If you are interested in developing similar content for your area, contact Dr. Ben Taragin, SPR Web Editor to discuss (btaragin@gmail.com).

SPR List Servs: We have recently launched several new list servs. We would like for SPR leaders to join the general SPR Member list serv so questions/discussions can be addressed by subject area experts if needed. Would you join the list serv by writing to spr_memsubscribe@yahoogroups.com?  If you would like a list serv initiated for your committee’s work, contact Angela Davis at adavis@acr.org

Member Data: SPR Committees who need member data to conduct their business may develop surveys using the Society’s subscription to surveymonkey.com. If your committee needs this function, contact Jennifer so we can provide you with the access information and coordinate the delivery of surveys.

Committee Reports

Committee Reports are due in November and April/May of each year for the two in-person Board meetings held each year. The specific due dates will be announced but you can plan that they will always be due several weeks before the RSNA and SPR Annual Meetings.  The reports of the SPR committees from the spring of 2018 can be accessed below.

Weekend Meeting Proposals

Most SPR-funded projects/activities emerge from the committee structure. However, the members of the SPR Board of Directors wish to foster innovation whatever the source. Members are encouraged to submit their ideas for Board consideration.

The application process for the 2020 calendar year has closed.  Information for the 2021 calendar year will be communicated in February 2019.  Thank you for your interest!

A Few Updates:

  1. We are moving away from the “rolling”, first come, first served model of evaluation proposals to a deadline system.
  2. July 15th will be the standing annual deadline for proposal submissions. (In years when the 15th of July falls on the weekend, applications will be due the following Monday.) The proposal submission deadline will only be extended in the event a meeting time slot remains open.
  3. If a proposal is not accepted, it may be considered the following year or for a different educational format (e.g. online webinar). However, it is the responsibility of the submitter(s) to confirm reactivation of a submission. You will have the ability to revise the submission to reflect a later time slot.
