Why the Campaign for Children?
Almost two decades ago, the Society for Pediatric Radiology recognized the need to support the research and educational innovation efforts of pediatric radiologists. As a result, the SPR initiated an endowment, the SPR Research and Education Foundation, which has funded almost 70 grants in its first 19 years.
Because of continuing need and because of our past success, the SPR and the Foundation recognize the responsibility to fund learning and research opportunities for our membership to benefit the children and families we serve.
The Campaign for Children is our optimistic effort to dramatically increase funding for research and education in pediatric imaging by growing the endowment of the SPR Research and Education Foundation.
Our first goal is to create a self-sustaining endowment that empowers the foundation to bestow grants totaling $100,000 per year, increasing for inflation, each year. This goal was achieved in 2006 – with approved REF grants totaling $103,000.
The longer-term goal is to create a stable endowment of $5,000,000, increasing the annual grants expenditure to $300,000.
The plan for reaching these goals has several components:
- The foundation’s current funding policy limits the grants given each year to an amount less than the income of the endowment, insuring the progressive growth of the corpus.
- In years when the SPR has significant excesses of revenues over expenses, the SPR Board has pledged to make a donation.
- WE CALL ON 100% OF THE SPR MEMBERSHIP TO GIVE AT SOME LEVEL.
